JU (Jahangirnagar University) is also one of the best university among the universities of Bangladesh. It was established in 1970 by the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance of the government. 

The foundation stone was laid by Field Marshall Ayub Khan, the then President of Pakistan. About 750 acres of land had been allotted for the university and the land was taken away from the Government Dairy Farm, east of the present campus in 1967. Later on about 50 acres of the University land was taken away from the Government Dairy Farm again in 1967. The university project started its implementation in April 1968 as Jahangirnagar Muslim University and Professor Surat Ali Khan was made the first Project Director. On 20 August 1970, an ordinance was promulgated to start the academic programmes of the university. Professor Mofizuddin Ahmed, the then member of the Central Public Service Commission of Pakistan and formerly Professor of Chemistry, University of Dhaka, was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor. He joined as vice-Chancellor on 24 September 1970. The earlier aim was to establish this university as a science oriented university. For that purpose five faculties, namely, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Applied Sciences were earmarked. However, the university was started later with 4 honours departments called viz Economics, Geography, Statistics and Mathematics. The university started with 21 teachers in these departments. Professor Malik Khasru Chowdhury was the first Dean of the Social Science Faculty. Two Professors were appointed, one for Chemistry and another for Physics to start the groundwork to open new departments. The first group of students, a total of 150, was enrolled in four Honours departments. The initial class was held on 4 January 1971. Its formal inauguration was delayed until 12 January 1971, when the university was formally launched by Rear Admiral S M Ahsan, the then Governor of East Pakistan and the Chancellor of the University. The university started in full swing when professor Syed Ali Ahsan joined as the second Vice-Chancellor in 2 February 1972. The university is residential; every student has an accommodation in one of the residential halls of the university.

 Jahangirnagar University is called the realm of natural beauty. To take a fresh breath and to see the natural campus, thousands of people visit this university every year. The whole campus is encircled by various types of trees and 12-13 lakes. The water features sprawled around the campus make an excellent habitat for the winter birds that flock in every year in thousands. In winter, the migratory birds come here to escape from severe cold of their native countries. There has a beautiful lake named Padda Pukur behind the VC residence where thousands of migratory birds sing their song with their own tune in winter  which will pleased you very much. The road between Kabir Sharoni to Chourasta should be most attractive as you will be greeted with thousands of Migratory Birds and red water lilies. If you are fortunate person, then you could find some wild life here as the zoology department of Jahangirnagar University conducting a wild life rescue center which conserves some wild life helping to marmalade the ecological balance. 

Have you ever know about Butterfly Park? Jahangirnagar University has a butterfly research centre and a butterfly park which is unique in Bangladesh. You will be able to see a wide verity of beautiful butterfly in a single area. The highest Monument commemorating the language movement is situated in Jahangirnagar University. This sculpture named Amor Ekushe is well known all over the country and lots of people visit this University to see the highest language movement monument in Bangladesh. The Shahid Minar is a place where you can enjoy a hangout with your friends and family and enjoy some tea. There are two other monuments nearby which can be worth seeing.

There are about 12-13 lakes for enhance the beauty and suited for migratory birds. The water features sprawled around the campus make an excellent habitat for the winter birds that flock in every year in thousands . There is a wild life rescue center conducted by zoology dept. It conserves some wild life . There is a butterfly research centre and a butterfly park. which is unique in Bangladesh. There is a sculptures named Amor Ekushe which upholds our language movement and the highest Munument . There is a beautiful lake named Padda Pukur behind the VC residence . There is a big play ground named centre field. There is a beautiful central Mosque located near the main entrance.  After all, There are a lots of beautiful place to enhance the beauty and make the place for standard education. Students do their home task and group study to sit these place with open air. Monni Shoroni and Chourongi yard are known place of Jahangirnagar University.

The university also has a gymnasium with a well equipped swimming pool. There is a central cafeteria from which provide cheap rate food for students. Adequate bus services between the campus and Dhaka city are also provided to the students & teachers and other employees of the university starting from transport yard. Different cultural groups usually performed drama and cultural programmes at Muktomoncho which is well known across the country. It was established by the great artist Selim Al Deen. Shaptam Chayamancha is a great attraction for the students at leisure period.

After all, Jahanirnagar University has become a most beautiful campus in Bangladesh and a renowned University for scholar to take their higher degree.Every friday , the city dwellers come here for natural happiness. In winter, the migratory birds come here escape from severe cold of their native countries. every season songs their song with their own tune. In spring, the campus looks like heaven. Every students gives a fresher reception to this season.Students organize many cultural program at Pohela Falgun(the first month of this season).
